AGENDA

1. Welcome and Introductions
• Roll: In attendance: Laszlo Mariahazy, Lorenda Lee, Dan Henderson, Blanca Quintero, Tim Craig, Melisa Caric, Tobias Wolf, Lisa Lubeley, Ingrid Bruce, Wendy Francis
• Special Guest(s) : Wendy Francis/President, URISA National – Reported that she is working extensively on workshop development, more volunteers for work shop presentations, establishing an “answer person” for each chapter concerning GIS Certification, also conference call scheduled on Sept. 8, 2004 with Chapter Presidents.

2. Old Business
• Highlights: Chapter Business/previous activity – Last workshop “Enterprise GIS”, held at Cal Poly/Pomona
Instructor: Dr. David Gadish
• Observations/Comments from the Board: Laszlo recognized the efforts of everyone involved, and congratulated the Chapter for another successful and informative educational experience.

3. Next Workshop
• Date: October 20, 2004 (Wednesday) tentative
• Topic (GIS Certification 2 (L.A. Co?): A second GIS Certification Workshop to be held in the downtown L.A. area. David Gadish volunteered to provide venue location. Details to follow.
It was suggested that Lisa Lubeley discuss details of Grandfather Clause at this workshop.
• Project Leader: Dan Henderson volunteered to instruct workshop.

4. National Conference Update (Reno/Tahoe, NV/CA 11/6-10/2004)
• Planned Board Attendance/Absence – changes: Laszlo Mariahazy, Lorenda Lee, Ingrid Bruce, possibly Dan Henderson and Blanca Quintero
• Activities – Booth? Meetings? Presentations? Wendy Francis will work with SoCal URISA to assist with a Chapter event and outreach for Southern California membership.
• Other Conferences:

5. Treasurer’s Report (and Tax Report if applicable) Tobias Wolf reported on the state of the accounts.

6. Newsletter Editor Report
• Change of Editor: Blanca Quintero has assumed Editor position in addition to Program Chair SD/Riverside.
• Next Issue – Date/Content: The first week of October is tentatively set for the completion of the next newsletter issue. Definitely needed prior to Reno, NV Conference and the October 20, 2004 GIS Certification Workshop. Blanca has received Publisher software and will work closely with Laszlo on the next issue. Some ideas to be included in the next publication are: Industry changes, Board Changes, Certification Info., Career column, links to important information and GIS resources. Laszlo asked everyone to please contribute and article or other item of interest for the newsletter.

7. Webmaster Report
• Web Site Updates: Tim has made many changes to site and updated with current info. Though the website hosting expired, Tim was able to work with SANDAG to get the website back up.
• Content Management: Laszlo asked that all Board Members keep an eye out for event information and other items that can be put on our site and forward it to him.

8. Membership Report
• Membership Data: The Chapter has acquired over thirty new members so far this year. 3 new members were signed up at Enterprise GIS Workshop @ Cal Poly Pomona. It was reported that of the 300+ members on record, 130 are current. Laszlo will send renewal reminders to the remaining 170. He also stressed the importance of following up with individual contacts.
• Recruiting: Laszlo, Kim (Mathis), and Blanca plan to confer on potential new marketing ideas for the SoCal Chapter. Laszlo asked that everyone continue to carry and distribute membership forms at events and post at colleges and other locations as well as actively recruit members whenever they can.

9. Program’s Report(s) – LA/Orange, San Diego/Riverside
• Territory/Coverage/Staffing: San Diego is heavily represented, needing more representation in the Northern areas. Tim Craig reported that an ESRI Imperial Users Group has been established and the first meeting is October 26th.
• Member Outreach: Emphasized increasing membership in the Imperial County and Riverside areas. Melisa Caric has several contacts and will report back to Laszlo.

10. New Business
• Advisor’s comments/ open forum
• Wendy Francis dropped in briefly
o She announced a workshop development committee
o There are a number of volunteer instructors
o Chapters to get content
• Each chapter has a “Certificate Answer Person”
• Laszlo brought up a California event at the national conference in Reno
• Ingrid wants chapter leaders to meet to discuss “keeping the conference on focus” What is it we are trying to accomplish? Why do we have the Conference?

11. Next Board Meeting
• Date: Scheduled tentatively for 10/20/04 following the GIS Certification Workshop
