ITEM 1: CHAPTER REORGANIZATION
Marketing tools for the 2003 CalGIS Conference
A title was chosen for Chapter video:
SOCAL URISA – Your professional GIS Organization
The board made edits to the DRAFT script. Kim was chosen to speak as URISA spokesperson on video regarding Chapter reorganization issues. Kim will get all script edits to writer, Gene Michals.
Board to send ideas for questions to Laszlo. Surveys will be placed in each seat during the keynote speaker/closing lunch at conference. Attendees will be asked to fill out surveys and hand to board members at doors as they leave (Lorenda).
A one-page flyer advertising SOCAL URISA (benefits, opportunities) will be added to conference program.
Booth to be located in exhibition hall and staffed by SOCAL board members that are not part of 2003 conference committee or working at their agency booths. Kim will send out a sign up sheet for booth. Materials to be handed out at booth include business card size printouts advertising Web site (with logo), new membership forms, extra surveys, a brief write up of Chapter reorganization including list of current board members and open board positions, and an advertisement for first workshop. Other promo items (e.g., pens with SOCAL logo) are being looked into (Laszlo).
Ideas for First Chapter Workshop (as part of reorganization)
Title: “Advanced Spatial Analysis & 3D Visualization”
Instructor: Dan Henderson, assisted by Mike and Laszlo
Suggested Site: Orange County Sanitation District (OCSD) Fountain Valley (Laszlo checking into).
Open to 100 attendees, free to members, non-members welcome for cost of membership.
$30 Individual
$200 Corporate (10 members per agency)
*This change should be reflected in new membership forms (Mike).
ITEM 2: TREASURER REPORT
Balance down over last three months due to number of board members attending National URISA Conference.
ITEM 3: TAX STATUS
Eric obtained nonprofit status from the federal government, who accepted our 2000 and 2001 applications. For 2002, need transactions from all active sections:
All Section Presidents need to write letters surrendering funds and closing bank accounts for the consolidation of resources to Chapter account, as well as a letter officially closing Section. Laszlo to write template letter.
ITEM 4: CALGIS CONFERENCE NEWS
Program committee has the conference program mostly set. Matrix to web next week. Registration numbers are on time (per the usual). Vendors good.
ITEM 5: SCHOLARSHIP UPDATE
Dan will send out a reminder next week via email for the SOCAL scholarship. Application deadline extended to March 7, 2003.Tim Craig to post new date on web. Judging will take place March 10 – 12. Judges will not see applicants name. Kim will notify winners on March 14 (by phone), followed by letters of congratulations and regrets to winners and non-winners.
