o Need a volunteer for an assembly of GIS experts that will give feedback to the State
o Can be a URISA Member at large
o Tasks include: Recommendations of: Policy and standards to minimize redundancy and error in statewide GIS efforts
o 2-3 meetings a year
o Miriam has a candidate, will know by August

ITEM 3: WORKSHOPS
Comments on Enterprise GIS Workshop
• Thanks to David Gadish
o Good turnout
o Though printed material state it, workshop is not yet a URISA Certified Workshop
• The next workshop topic will again be “GIS Certification”
o Location: Los Angeles area to reach members not able to attend first workshop
o Team or panel discussion
o Others topics to consider: “Homeland Security”

ITEM 4: UPCOMING CONFERENCES
• ESRI User Conference
o Combined URISA/ Other Local GIS Group Meeting /Map Gallery awards presentation
o Tuesday Lunch, 12:15 – 1:30
o Laszlo to get meeting room online
o Lorenda will coordinate Geography Showcase judges after Laszlo gets commitments
• National URUSA November 6-10, Reno, NV
• CalGIS 2005 – Bakersfield
• CalGIS 2006 will be in our area and our responsibility – where will it be held?
• Cal Poly Symposium- Sustainable Development

ITEM 5: NEWSLETTER UPDATE – BLANCA
• Blanca now has the software
• Content:
o The whole board, including advisors, can contribute something to the newsletter, even a paragraph
o Book Review
o Discuss benefits of membership

ITEM 6: MEMBERSHIP UPDATE
• Three new /renewed members per this workshop
• Membership – recruiting
o Laszlo, Kim and Blanca to set up a conference call to brainstorm marketing ideas

ITEM 7: NEW BUSINESS
• Advisor’s comments/ open forum
o Dan Henderson- not attending, no communication
o Offer a graceful exit if he cannot contribute or has time constraints
o Laszlo moves to contact Dan re: above topic, Kim seconds
• Board is prompted to attend all board meetings, executive board quorum is critical to vote, past president Kim pointed out.
• New board members- from Northern areas if possible
• According to conference calls with Wendy Francis:
o National is in favor of combining meetings and events with other GIS groups.
o National is going this way
o National is readjusting its vision and will be announcing a structure change re: dues. Expect info at November conference
• We need to find out how to get certified workshops/ get workshops certified, Laszlo will talk to Wendy and Scott Grams regarding this.
• Board should voice opinion and send comments to Laszlo.
